The goal of this
web site is to familiarize the student locksmtih or hobbyist to the resources
available with which to gain a self-acquired and broad based education
in the field of locksmithing. So many professionals that I have spoken
to over the years agree with my personal point of view . . . that becoming
a well rounded, well-educated locksmith does not rely necessarily on an
expensive education in a formalized environment. It is well known
amongst professionals that the huge majority of working locksmiths either
taught themselves or served as apprentice locksmiths, rather than attend a
formal locksmith college.
I would be the last to suggest that such places do not have their
value. Certainly for anyone who can afford such an education it is
an excellent option. For employees of large companies willing to
foot the bill, it is probably the best route. But for most of us,
particularly those who wish to build their own small business or get involved
in the hobby of lock picking for strictly informal reasons, it is far better
to teach oneself with the vast resources at his or her fingertips.
