.: SHOP TOOLS
You will eventually need to begin acquiring specialized tools
for your growing shop, whether it be a mobile van or a brick and mortar building.
Since you are starting at home, and setting about to learn the business
through home schooling, this process will likely span over a period of months
or even years.
Shown below are just a very few of the many items Locksmiths use
every day in business. Some of these items will require an investment,
such as key duplicators and pinning kits (a good key duplicator does not
come cheap . . . expect to pay over $350 and much more if you plan to purchase
a code cutting key machine). There are quite a few shop tools,
however, that are fairly inexpensive. You would do good to purchase,
at the very least, the following items as you begin:
KEY GAUGE (4- or 5-in-1 model is recommended, as it will
save money)
Plug follower set (the SUT-14 is highly recommended)
A small pinning kit
A pair of pin tweezers
A small bench vise
An assortment of regular and Philips screwdrivers (varying sizes)
A set of Allen wrenches
A pair of TruArc pliers (many lock cylinders use TruArc rings)
